6 Topics to Communicate to Employees in April

This is a difficult time for businesses and employees alike as we all face the COVID-19 pandemic . It’s more important than ever to continue with regular communication, especially now that many teams are working remotely for the first time. In April, we recommend sharing a mix of essential COVID-19 information, plus other timely topics to keep employees engaged and reminded of their usual routines.

1. National Stress Awareness Month


Help employees find healthy ways to manage stress through wellness practices such as mediation and exercise. You can also use National Stress Awareness Month to let people know about your company’s Employee Assistance Program (EAP).

2. Autism Awareness Month


Many autism-friendly events and educational activities take place throughout April to increase understanding and acceptance and foster worldwide support. This year’s theme is “Celebrate Differences,” which ties in with diversity and inclusion. Promote local events, suggest a donation to Autism Speaks (and remind them of corporate gift matching, if you have it), and definitely let people know if your company offers any Autism benefits and resources.

3. Taxes


The IRS extended the federal deadline for filing and paying taxes to July 15, 2020, which can be confusing to employees. It’s still a good idea to file taxes now because taxpayers who expect a refund can get their payments as soon as the return is processed.

4. Alcohol Awareness Month


Invite employees to make a commitment to observe an alcohol-free weekend during Alcohol Awareness Month. This is the perfect time to spread awareness about resources for preventing alcohol misuse and abuse. Highlight wellness tips and workplace resources, like the Employee Assistance Program (EAP) or how to earn incentives by completing the health risk assessment.

5. National Financial Literacy Month


Since April is National Financial Literacy Month, send your employees budget tips and workplace resources, such as savings plans, 401k, financial wellness resources, HAS, and more.

6. Distracted Driving Awareness Month


April is Distracted Driving Awareness month, a time to raise awareness about this issue and commit to keeping our roads safer. This is important if you have employees that are on the road driving company vehicles, or simply using their own cars to commute to work. Help keep them safe with reminders about how to avoid distracted driving.
